Akbay dismisses threat of former players, amid historic visit

Three former Ngezi Platinum players will make a sensational return to Baobab stadium when the Mhondoro side hosts in-form Chicken Inn in the Castle Lager topflight matchday four Easter Friday fixture.

Ngezi gaffer Erol Akbay dismissed possibilities of any of Madamburo’s former players haunting on the day, arguing that they were now nothing but part of the club’s history.

Goalie Donovan Bernard, midfielder Tichaona Chipunza and forward Clive Augusto who has found a new lease of life at the Gamecocks will likely make up the core of coach joey Antipas’ side.

Augusto has scored four of Chicken Inn’s seven goals this season.

The team has neither conceded nor lost and leads the log standings on nine points after three rounds of matches.

Akbay says there will be no special attention to the three.

“We will not be giving them any special attention, when players go they are gone they are history…sometimes you lose good players but that is how football works.

“I never look at a players and think that this player was mine, I have never had that kind of thinking, they moved to Chicken Inn and I wish them good luck,” said Akbay who was given an ultimatum to claim the title this season.

Alongside Triangle and defending champions FC Platinum the two sides are obvious contenders for the title this season and their Friday fixture will play a part in determining the course of the 34-match long journey.
